Droplet vaporization for conventional and alternative jet fuels at realistic temperature conditions: Systematic measurements and numerical modeling

چکیده

The desired reduction of fossil fuel consumption the aviation sector requires introduction alternative jet fuels from renewable sources. A major hurdle for their is cost-intensive assessment effects on combustion performance, which relies fuel-dependent processes such as atomization, vaporization and chemical reaction. present work describes results a newly designed experiment that provides accurate measurements free-falling droplets realistic size (D ? 80 µm) in vertical laminar flow with temperatures typical technical combustors. Measurements are performed set systematically chosen conventional multi-component detailed compositions available, three single species. show differences can be accurately resolved related to physical properties. In particular, it found effect boiling point largest ambient gas T? below 1000 K, whereas higher influence heat dominant. well-defined boundary conditions further enable numerical simulation droplet vaporization, where latter uses model based continuous thermodynamic representation Comparisons predicts temporal evolution diameters vaporization.

Seedling emergence response to temperature in safflower: measurements and modeling

Quantitative information about the response of seedling emergence totemperature for safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is rare. The main objective ofthe present study was to develop a model for predicting days to emergence forsafflower as influenced by the temperature. In this regard, a field experiment with arange of sowing dates and four safflower cultivars were conducted to describe theresp...

Acoustic Droplet Vaporization in Biology and Medicine

This paper reviews the literature regarding the use of acoustic droplet vaporization (ADV) in clinical applications of imaging, embolic therapy, and therapeutic delivery. ADV is a physical process in which the pressure waves of ultrasound induce a phase transition that causes superheated liquid nanodroplets to form gas bubbles. The bubbles provide ultrasonic imaging contrast and other functions...

A Review of Droplet Dynamics and Vaporization Modeling for Engineering Calculations

The present paper reviews the methodologies for representing the droplet motion and vaporization history in two-phase flow computations. The focus is on the use of droplet models that are realistic in terms of their efficient implementation in comprehensive spray simulations, representation of important physical processes, and applicability under a broad range of conditions. The methodologies a...

Droplet collisions after liquid jet breakup in microgravity conditions

The droplet dynamics and collisions after a liquid jet breakup have been experimentally studied in low gravity conditions. An experimental setup was designed in order to be used at the I.N.T.A. Drop Tower, which allows for 2.1 seconds of microgravity. The dynamics of distilled water jets injected into a rectangular tank was recorded by means of a high-speed video camera. Observations of the dro...
